Anesthesiology

The Department of Anaesthesiology at HIND Medical College is one of the largest departments, which has over the years expanded from a nuclear family to a large joint family. The department was set up in 2008. Over the years, along with the development of medical sciences, the department has set up its own high standards in patient care, education and research. All clinical departments are anchored to this speciality. Residents join this department from various parts of the country. The department follows an integrated approach and standard protocols for patient care, education and research. The department runs a pre-anaesthesia clinic every day from 9 AM to 4 PM in the PAC room. The pain clinic is run every day between 10 AM and 01 PM. In the pain clinic, facilities for various modalities of pain therapy, viz., regional blocks and neurolytic blocks with or without ultrasound aid. Ozone therapy under fluoroscopy is available. Faculty and residents are encouraged to attend and present scientific papers in national and international conferences. The dept is also responsible for running critical care services of 51 beds, including Surgical ICU, Resp ICU, Medicine ICU, Cardiac Care ICU, etc., under dedicated and full-time anaesthesiologists. The dept is also managing the central sterilisation supply dept (CSSD) and the hospital medical gas pipeline supply system, including the liquid oxygen plant. The dept is also running CPR courses / workshops for doctors / residents and non-teaching staff. An AHA-accredited BLS/ACLS workshop with the help of AHA-recognised faculty. The dept has a unique CPR lab at the CPR Training Center at the dept. It is now catering to the needs of all doctors / residents / non-teaching staff / corporate / community by offering appropriate courses to all categories.

Facilities

  • To provide high-standard training to undergraduates, interns and postgraduate students as per the prescribed MCI syllabus and its objectives.
  • To ensure that the department produces good specialists with the right attitude towards patients and the community as a whole.
  • To provide training and conduct courses for OT technicians of two years' duration as per guidelines issued by UP State Medical Faculty, Lucknow.
  • To train B.Sc. Nursing and other paramedical personnel in necessary theoretical and practical knowledge so as to make them competent in providing skills to handle surgical cases in the operation theatre environment or outside the OT in critically ill patients.
  • To ensure that all categories of personnel falling within the purview of training in the Dept of Anaesthesiology & Critical Care become confident to provide Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) for residents & doctors.
  • To provide support services in remote location in CT / MRI Suites, psychiatry departments and Interventional products undertaken in various other departments.
  • To provide management of critical patients in all ICUs through an open-type system round the clock.
  • To provide pain and palliative care services.

ACADEMICS & TRAINING

  • An intense academic programme is followed in the departments by organising and conducting seminars, symposiums, tutorials, case presentations, journal clubs, and brainstorming sessions on a regular basis.
  • Faculty indulges in didactic lectures, tutorials, and problem-solving skills training for postgraduate students.
  • Integrated / interdepartmental seminars are held regularly.
  • Emphasis is given on hands-on training in performing various procedures in OTs and ICUs.
  • An objective structured clinical practical exam (OSCE / OSPE) is conducted as the main tool for frequent formative assessments of the postgraduate students.

Activities

  1. It provides all the routine and Emergency Anaesthesia Services and Disaster Management for the entire hospital (HIMS, Barabanki)
  2. Following are the departments: General Surgery, Laparoscopic Surgery, ENT Surgery, Ophthalmology Surgery, Orthopaedics Surgery, Paediatrics Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Uro Surgery, Dental Surgery & all radiological procedures.
  3. The department is running a 30-bed intensive care facility (SICU, MICU, RICU, PICU, NICU) with ventilators and state-of-the-art equipment under the guidance of qualified intensivists.
  4. The Department is providing a teaching & Training programme (Short Clinics, seminars, and Journal Club) for undergraduates.
  5. The department is running a successful PAC (pre-anaesthetic checkup) clinic daily.
  6. The department is running a pain clinic twice a week.
  7. The department has a human patient simulator (HPS) on basic resuscitation.
  8. The department is also providing regional anaesthesia/analgesia and labour analgesia to the patients.
  9. There is a department library with well-equipped books & journals & has access to many online journals.
  10. There is a departmental museum.
  11. Well-established department with computer facilities.
